I had booked into an improver class weekend in April, and it was a very rewarding and enjoyable experience. I surfed quite regularly for 3 years without lessons, and picked up a lot of bad habits over time. In the first lesson Ben identified those and brought us 'back-to-basics'. In the follow-up lessons he and his instructors brought us (we were 6 in the class) to a respectable standard. Ben and his staff were always positive and encouraging, paying great attention to detail for each single one of us. In fact it is very hard not to take his advice on board (pun intended). At the end of the 2 days I felt that I reached a solid & sound level to improve from, while still having plenty of things to practice every time I go surfing. I would recommend lessons with him to everyone who wants to pick up surfing, ideally over a weekend as this gives you plenty of exposure to great coaching and fun in the water.

My girlfriend and I had never surfed before when we decided to get some lessons with Bens Surf Clinic, but even after just the first day we came away so excited we had to book more lessons than we had planned, so so worth it, couldnt have imagined we would improve so quickly thanks to the brilliant instructors and have so much fun! We'll be back again as soon as possible! --New Surf Addict Declan

Ben has been coaching us for the past three years. In that time he has turned us into complete addicts. His lessons are always funny and enjoyable all while learning loads. Whether it be going back to basics like correcting where you lie on the board to catching huge green waves, you know you have improved at the end of each lesson. He has the ability to turn the coldest, windiest days of winter into some of your favourite surfs. Your always being encouraged, advised and get loads of attention as the groups are always kept small. As lessons are done on ability it is a great way to make new surf buddies for after lesson surfs. There is always a happy atmosphere at the van just adding to the epic experience Bens Surf Clinic is. :D

I recently had a fun and fantastic experience attending a week long surf camp for adults with Ben's Surf Clinic. As a beginning surfer I was astonished to be able to stand up and ride a wave less than 30 minutes into the first lesson! I had tried before on my own without much success. Each time I learned a new skill, the instructors helped me fine tune what I had just learned, and go on to the next step. This trend continued all week and I applied what I learned the next week when surfing on my own. I learned about how waves are formed and why they break where they do and lots of resources for checking conditions. I am absolutely hooked now, love surfing! Ben and his staff are wonderful and I can't believe how much I was able to learn in such a short time span!

I spent a weekend doing bens improver classes. 4 in total. I honestly made more progress in those 2 days than I had made in the two years previously. Great attention to detail, he can pick up on the small things that others seem to miss, and knows just the exercise to help you remedy it. Can't recommend highly enough. With his "keep up the wave count" mantra ringing in your ears, you'll be wrecked by the end but it's worth it, when the advice is this good, you just want to keep absorbing as much as you can. Richie was great on the second day as well. That guy knows his stuff, and the two lads compliment each other nicely. Keep it up lads.

"Frustration frustration frustration. I had been surfing for about two years and reached a stage where my self taught techniques were just limiting my surfing, my pop up was slow so I was missing the green waves and once up my stance was stuck in the oh my god I'm on a wave position. I joined one of bens courses and worked like a demon for 2 days. I got advice on all the techniques I needed to know and was wrecked by the end of the weekend. But, more importantly for me I got tips and advice that I took away and worked on for months after. I enjoyed the course so much I went on a second course about a year later to remind me of what to do. I think its important to remember that even if the conditions are not great on the weekend you do the course you pick up so much that you can work on yourself everytime you surf. Great course at a great price.... Thanks Ben" Sonya Fitzgerald Galway - Surfer

"I have done Ben's weekend course twice, and would recommend it to anyone who surfs. Ben's ability to help me make minor but important adjustments to my technique, and his friendly and encouraging approach had helped me to improve and enjoy surfing even more. I'll definitely be back for more!" Donnacha Foley - Galway Surf Club Chairperson

“I had tried surfing once before and spent the weekend not knowing what it was like to stand on my surfboard. Then it was Ben to the rescue. I took part in his weekend course, and after a few hours on the first day, I was catching waves and by day two, I was surfing and there was no looking back. Thanks for the best weekend and for helping a girl conquer her fear of the open water!” Pamela Hatton - Today FM

"Having come over from England to learn to surf, I used Ben's Surf Clinic. And wasn't left disappointed. Very patient and didn't overload you with jargon. He kept an eye on every wave I caught (or tried to catch) then waited for the right time to offer his tips on were to improve. And unlike many surf schools you see that cram as many people into the lesson as possible and think that having you stand up on a board once for less than a seconds is mission accomplished time to go home. Ben's attention to detail takes it a step further and helps you learn how to read the wave, when to paddle, the timing and how to get up and stay up."

"My friends and I done a surf clinic weekend with Ben and found it really helpful. He was very enthusiastic and observant, giving everyone specific feedback to improve their surfing technique. This constant coaching pushes you harder which means you get the most out of the weekend. We had a very productive fun weekend and would recommend him to anybody interested in lessons that go beyond the basics."

"Ben spent some time with me and my brother Mike a few years ago and even travelled to a British Pro Tour event with us. He's super enthusiastic about seeing all his students/competitive surfers improve and do well for themselves in surfing. A very motivated and motivating guy to work with!"
