BENS SURF CLINIC, LAHINCH, CO. CLARE WILL BE DELIVERING THE LIMERICK & CLARE FURTHER EDUCATION & TRAINING BOARD SURF INSTRUCTOR & BEACH LIFEGUARD COURSE.

AIM OF THE SURF INSTRUCTOR COURSE:

The aim of this course is to train candidates to become outdoor instructors, with recognised qualifications in Surf Instruction, Beach Life-guarding and Aquatic First Aid.

This course will help you improve your surfing ability from a very basic level to being ready to take the Irish Surfing Association (ISA) Level 1 Surf Instructor exam.

The course will train instructors to deliver Surfing and Adventure Activities so that they are employable and competent in this area while also improve their personal effectiveness and job seeking skills so as to enable them to obtain or retain employment in the outdoor activities area.

Employability Statement

The successful completion of these awards in Surf Instruction, Beach Life-Guarding and Aquatic First Aid will enable applicants to work as an Surf Instructor or Beach Lifeguard.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Education: Junior Certificate Level or equivalent with Pass in English

Aptitude: Reading, Writing. Junior Cert standard of literacy and Mathematics. Basic Computer Literacy (Word, Email, Internet Proficiency) preferred. Good communication skills, good ability for teamwork; outgoing, demonstrative; cheerful personality. Strong Swimming Ability. Good level of personal fitness. Swimming test prior to interview for programme – 400m in under 9 minutes.

Previous Experience: Preferred – any experience of team-based outdoor pursuits- Scouting, Guides, Gaisce Award, Preferred – experience of surfing, swimming, membership of sports clubs, teams, Preferred – experience working with youth groups: NYP, Foroige, Summer Camps.

WHERE WILL THE COURSE TAKE PLACE?

The course will be based in Bens Surf Clinic which is situated on the promenade in Lahinch, Co. Clare. All equipment will be provided or students can use their own. Course will commence in October 2019 and run full time for 26 weeks, Monday to Friday.
